Daylily Circle

Daylily Circle is the newest circle of the Garden Club (GCSP).  This is the only circle with a horticulture focus that meets on a weekday morning.  It is usually on the third Thursday of the month, September through May, at 9:30 am to enjoy coffee, tea and light fare. The meeting begins at 10:00 am with a program and a brief business meeting.

This is a diversified group with a wide range of ages, past and present vocations and interests. There are several Master Gardeners, and several who are attending classes to become certified and a good number who are generally interested in horticulture and gardening.

There is typically a speaker, with topics that are communicated in the newspapers and on the website.  Daylily, along with other GCSP circles, is involved with youth programs, including:

  • Camp Wekiva - this is a summer residential nature camp for 3rd through 8th Grade youngsters sponsored by the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., for which the members volunteer and through fund raisers, the circle pays for a student or students to go to camp.

  • School Gardens – this is where members work with students at elementary, middle, and high schools gardens

  • GCSP Summer Nature Camp – this is a week-long session with themed activities and speakers

  • Junior Gardener Program - this is open to elementary and middle school youth and meets on Saturdays at the Pioneer Settlement Village.  A range of garden topics are covered and they plant gardens.

The circle also supports Garden Therapy projects for our area nursing homes and nurtures the butterfly garden on the club grounds, Coconut Park.  We do several community projects, such as: adding to the Public Library’s Seed Catalogs.  Members take an active part in the GCSP’s annual fundraisers: October Plant Sale and February Flea Market and Plant Sale.  It participates in the St Petersburg’s Green Thumb Festival with a judged Flower Show - April.
