Many grants look to volunteer hours as part of the criteria in grant application, serving as in-kind donation to help meet matching fund requirements. Grants to the club are a critical source of income for our programs as well as the maintenance and improvement of the club-house and grounds.
Specific activities that qualify as volunteer hours might be: Green Thumb Festival Flower Show, Art in Bloom, working in club gardens, counselor at kid’s camps (GCSP, Wekiva), working at fundraiser events (such as Home & Garden Market, Plant and Holiday Sales), or programs at nursing homes, schools, or libraries.
Also to note, a member cannot be paid to speak or present a program at a meeting. This would be volunteer hours. If a member is presenting a program, the member can be reimbursed for materials used to present the program, but the member cannot be paid for items or plants that then belong to the member.
